Oh My God – He Can’t See !
Oh My God – He Can’t See !
That is why they won’t get him glasses that fit! They let him go blind!
First they starve him. Then they let him go blind!
He had an eye condition. They knew it. But his MASTER never provided the medical care required so Casey could see.
Guess that would be too much of a dent in their $19,000-a-month paycheck – never mind the Medicare they get!
You know – the Medicare funding that is supposed to be used for the medical treatment of their prison ward?
Too much money. Casey is only good for the money the PRISON gets for him.
Oh My God – He Can’t See !
And what about his ‘Protected Person’ rights?
NRS 159A.079 General functions of guardian of person; establishment or change of residence of protected minor by guardian.
1. Except as otherwise ordered by the court, a guardian of the person has the care, custody and control of the person of the protected minor, and has the authority and, subject to subsection 2, shall perform the duties necessary for the proper care, maintenance, education and support of the protected minor, including, without limitation, the following:
(a) Supplying the protected minor with food, clothing, shelter and all incidental necessaries, including locating an appropriate residence for the protected minor based on the financial situation and needs of the protected minor, including, without limitation, any medical needs or needs relating to his or her care.
Are these ‘rights’ only available to ‘free’ people? Not those in prison?
A state or federal prisoner has more rights than a young, disabled adult like Casey.
And, sadly, Casey is not alone.
“The Price of Care: Taken by the State”
Below is information on California and how its state agencies are failing people like Casey.
“The Price of Care: Taken by the State” will begin airing Thursday, August 18 at 6PM.
This five-episode documentary-series is a compilation of two years of extensive investigative work. It is the second season of the “Price of Care” ongoing investigation into conservatorships. While our first season focused on general conservatorships of the elderly, this season will focus entirely on limited conservatorships for Californians with disabilities.
Our investigation digs into the complex governmental and legal system behind limited conservatorships – and the state agency failing the people it has promised to protect. We found a deeply broken system that’s hurting people with disabilities and their families – and it’s funded by our taxpayer dollars.
You can watch and share the just-released trailer for “The Price of Care: Taken by the State” by clicking here.
It’s available to share on ABC10’s Facebook or Instagram and my social media pages. Promos for our investigation will also begin airing on broadcast on ABC10 in the coming days.
The first episode will be a special edition of our newly launched show “To The Point.” It will air from 6PM to 7PM on Thursday, August 18. The other four episodes will air each week – every Thursday at 6:30PM.
Here are the dates and times:

A huge thank you to all who have been involved in both seasons of The Price of Care investigation. I am continually in awe and so appreciative of those who trust us with their stories and expertise. We couldn’t do this important work without you.
I also want to thank our incredible team – none of this work would be possible without Gonzalo Magaña, Rory Ward, Tyler Horst, Mike Bunnell, Sabrina Sanchez, Jill Manuel, Risa Omega and our entire ABC10 news team.
We hope this investigative series will help shine a light on systemic problems, lead to both personal and legislative change and overall help Californians understand how limited conservatorships, California’s Department of Developmental Services, regional centers, probate courts and this system operates.
